Why are there so many famous bible verses? The bible continues to be the best selling book in the world. As literature, it is one of the most loved books of all time. As divine revelation, it is full of “living power” (Hebrews 4:12). That’s why so many of its bible verses are famous.

Editor's Note: This is perhaps the most famous bible verse in all of scripture. That's probably because it's the first verse in the bible.

Genesis 1:26-28
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Genesis 2:18

Famous Bible Verses from the Minor Prophets

Jonah 4:11
Should I not have compassion on Nineveh, the great city in which there are more than 120,000 persons who do not know the difference between their right and left hand, as well as many animals? (NASB)

Editor's Note: this famous bible verse is interesting for a couple reasons. First, it shows God's mercy even toward a city outside Israel. Second, note that God's mercy is extended toward both people and animals.
