Inspirational Bible Verses

Scripture is full of inspirational bible verses. The entire story, from beginning to end, is a story of challenge and triumph… people provide the challenge, God provides the triumph.

The inspiring bible verses listed below are a small sample of what the bible contains. But they should give you a good start. I’ve also created two related pages that might help you further: Encouraging Bible Verses or Motivational Bible Verses.

As is the case on most pages on this site, I interject my thoughts after some verses to help those who are looking for inspirational bible verses for their own or group study. My words are in italics to try and prevent confusion. If you’re looking for inspirational bible verses for a greeting card or some other simple application, just ignore everything in italics.

Inspirational Bible Verses from the Psalms

Psalm 3:3-5
But you, Lord, are a shield that protects me;
you are my glory and the one who restores me.

To the Lord I cried out,
and he answered me from his holy hill. (Selah)

I rested and slept;
I awoke, for the Lord protects me. (NET)

Editor’s Note: This inspirational bible verse uses, "sleep" as a symbol for peace and security. A child sleeps well while her parents are close. A child of God can feel secure in his protection. See also Psalm 4:8.

Psalm 18:31-33
Indeed, who is God besides the Lord?
Who is a protector besides our God?

The one true God gives me strength;
he removes the obstacles in my way.

He gives me the agility of a deer;
he enables me to negotiate the rugged terrain. (NET)

Psalm 24:1-2The Lord owns the earth and all it contains,
the world and all who live in it.

For he set its foundation upon the seas,
and established it upon the ocean currents. (NET)

Psalm 27:14
Rely on the Lord!
Be strong and confident!
Rely on the Lord! (NET)

Psalm 28:6-9
The Lord deserves praise,
for he has heard my plea for mercy!

The Lord strengthens and protects me;
I trust in him with all my heart.

I am rescued and my heart is full of joy;
I will sing to him in gratitude.

The Lord strengthens his people;
he protects and delivers his chosen king.

Deliver your people!
Empower the nation that belongs to you!
Care for them like a shepherd and carry them in your arms at all times! (NET)

Inspirational Bible Verses from the Prophets

Isaiah 40:12-31
Who has measured out the waters in the hollow of his hand,
or carefully measured the sky,
or carefully weighed the soil of the earth,
or weighed the mountains in a balance,
or the hills on scales?

Who comprehends the mind of the Lord,
or gives him instruction as his counselor?

From whom does he receive directions?
Who teaches him the correct way to do things,
or imparts knowledge to him,
or instructs him in skillful design?
Look, the nations are like a drop in a bucket;
they are regarded as dust on the scales.
He lifts the coastlands as if they were dust.

Not even Lebanon could supply enough firewood for a sacrifice;
its wild animals would not provide enough burnt offerings.
All the nations are insignificant before him;
they are regarded as absolutely nothing.

To whom can you compare God?
To what image can you liken him?

A craftsman casts an idol;
a metalsmith overlays it with gold
and forges silver chains for it.

To make a contribution one selects wood that will not rot;
he then seeks a skilled craftsman
to make an idol that will not fall over.

Do you not know?
Do you not hear?
Has it not been told to you since the very beginning?
Have you not understood from the time the earth’s foundations
were made?

He is the one who sits on the earth’s horizon;
its inhabitants are like grasshoppers before him.
He is the one who stretches out the sky like a thin curtain,
and spreads it out like a pitched tent.

He is the one who reduces rulers to nothing;
he makes the earth’s leaders insignificant.
Indeed, they are barely planted;
yes, they are barely sown;
yes, they barely take root in the earth,
and then he blows on them, causing them to dry up,
and the wind carries them away like straw.

“To whom can you compare me? Whom do I resemble?”says the Holy One.

Look up at the sky!
Who created all these heavenly lights?
He is the one who leads out their ranks;
he calls them all by name.
Because of his absolute power and awesome strength,not one of them is missing.

Why do you say, Jacob,
Why do you say, Israel,
“The Lord is not aware of what is happening to me,
My God is not concerned with my vindication”?

Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is an eternal God,
the creator of the whole earth
He does not get tired or weary;
there is no limit to his wisdom.

He gives strength to those who are tired;
to the ones who lack power, he gives renewed energy.
Even youths get tired and weary;
even strong young men clumsily stumble.

But those who wait for the Lord’s help find renewed strength;
they rise up as if they had eagles’ wings,
they run without growing weary,
they walk without getting tired. (NET)

Editor’s Note: It’s ironic that the person who “waits” is the one who is strong. It is when we use our own energy to accomplish something that we fall on our faces.

Isaiah 41:10
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you!
Don’t be frightened, for I am your God!
I strengthen you –
yes, I help you –
yes, I uphold you with my saving right hand! (NET)

Daniel 2:20-22
Let the name of God be praised forever and ever,
for wisdom and power belong to him.

He changes times and seasons,
deposing some kings
and establishing others.

He gives wisdom to the wise;
he imparts knowledge to those with understanding;
he reveals deep and hidden things.

He knows what is in the darkness,
and light resides with him. (NET)

Joel 3:16
The Lord roars from Zion;
from Jerusalem his voice bellows out.
The heavens and the earth shake.

But the Lord is a refuge for his people;
he is a stronghold for the citizens of Israel. (NET)

Editor’s Note: From these inspirational bible verses we see that God’s power and unmatched strength are to be feared by those who oppose him. But it is a source of great comfort to those who honor him.

Inspirational Bible Verses from the Gospels

Matthew 11:28-30
Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke on you and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and my load is not hard to carry.” (NET)

John 3:16-18
For this is the way God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world should be saved through him. The one who believes in him is not condemned. (NET)

Inspirational Bible Verses from the Epistles

Ephesians 3:20-21
Now to him who by the power that is working within us is able to do far beyond all that we ask or think, to him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. (NET)

Philippians 1:6
For I am sure of this very thing, that the one who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. (NET)

Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (KJV)

Editor’s Note: The context of this inspirational bible verse is telling us that Paul had found the secret to being content in whatever financial situation he’s in. We should be cautious about applying this verse in too many situations.

These are but a few of the many inspirational bible verses contained in scripture. I will add more inspiring bible verses as I find them. Click here for more inspirational bible verses.
